Sea Harrier FRS1
I purchased the now discontinued kit in 2011 just as production by Airfix had ceased . Not an easy build due to poor fitting of parts and the need to cut off the GR3 front section and replace with the Sea Harrier cockpit . I added additional detailing from the “Flightpath etched detailing set “ The Sea Harrier FRS 1 made its name during Operation Corporate in 1982 when a task force was sent to retake the Falkland Islands after they had been invaded by Argentina .
The Sea Harriers were based on HMS Invincible and HMS Hermes , the Harriers shot down 20 Argentine aircraft with no loss in air combat and just 2 being lost to enemy ground fire .The last Sea Harrier was withdrawn from RN service in March 2006.
